Job Description

The Learning Community Graduate Assistants report directly to the Director of Learning Community Programs and the various professional staff members. They assist with the planning, preparation and management of the university’s learning communities. Learning communities (LCs) at Ohio University are groups of students who take an intentional cluster of courses together while developing a deeper understanding of the courses’ subject matter. Students build relationships with instructors and each other while learning together in and outside of the classroom. LCs at OHIO are housed in an academic unit, but provide many student affairs-related activities to students, particularly as related to building inclusive communities where all students are valued — and given the opportunities and information needed to be successful.
There are five distinct GA positions within LC programs. Each GA is responsible for:
¬ In the Fall, coordinating the programming efforts of the Learning Community Leaders (LCLs)

¬ Assisting with the recruitment, selection, and training of the LCLs

¬ Promoting LCs at Admissions recruitment fairs and other resource fairs

¬ Reviewing curriculum in the LC seminars and collaborating on instructor resources and training

¬ Assisting with the assessment of the LC programs, which includes compiling and analyzing data

¬ Assisting with the writing, editing, and revision of LC brochures, LC correspondence, and other related materials

¬ Twenty (20) hours per week required; includes some evening and weekend commitments and other assigned duties

In the Spring semester, the five GA positions particularly focus on the following:
1) Assessment and student recruitment
2) UC 1000: University Experience course
3) UC 1900: Learning Community Seminar and service learning
4) LCL recruitment, training, and programming
