Job Description

The Academic Skills Instruction program includes both learning strategies courses and individual college student skills coaching. Both are designed to support students through experiential and strengths-based approaches to learning, with a focus on metacogntivie learning strategies. Because the AAC values inclusion, and works towards upholding frameworks grounded in equity and social justice, all graduate assistants will receive training in diversity and cultural competency throughout the duration of their assistantship.

Duties are dependent on interest and desired experiences and may include:
¬ College Study Skills Coaching – meeting with students individually to discuss study strategies and provide academic support recommendations.
¬ Observing a UC 1100 class in preparation to teach the following Spring semester
¬ Teaching UC 1100 Learning Strategies or UC 1101 Test Taking and Time Management, most likely Spring Semester.
¬ Assisting with outreach to classes and student organizations to promote AAC classes and other academic support services.
¬ Prepare, practice, and present college study skills workshops and AAC services presentations as requested by instructors and programs.
¬ Create and review Study Skills Coaching reports in TutorTrac, recording student Qualtrics feedback and tracking appointments follow ups and notes.
¬ Research study skills topics for use in presentations, updating study skills materials on the instructor website and finding new materials for posting on the student website or sharing on AAC social media.
¬ Special projects as determined by Assistant Director of Academic Skills Instruction
